This sculpture is a part of my Collaborations with Nature
series; whereby I deposit a sculpture in an unstable
natural/industrial environment and allow the surroundings,
natural or otherwise to take effect on the sculpture.
After sculpting and painting, Mitochondrial Mother was left
unattended in a field for three months, effecting, mainly, her
skin.
The work reflects on humanity’s ongoing degradation of the
planet. By centering its interests solely on itself, society
continues to exploit and ravage the Earth with little regard
for lasting consequences.
